I've had so much fun creating smoothie bowls over the last week for the #WildYourSmoothie recipe contest. I loved participating in the contest because it made me think of unique ingredients to blend into Wild Blueberry smoothies and to put on top of smoothie bowls.
This may surprise you but I had not made a smoothie bowl before last week! Now I am hooked. I love creating an artistic display of crunchy flavor pops on top! This morning I took a peek in my refrigerator and found yellow squash and stringless sugar snap peas and I thought why not! Listen up! Next time you make a wild blueberry smoothie bowl you must pop a few sugar snap peas on top. Wild Blueberries and Sugar Snap Peas really complement each other! The yellow squash is buttery and has a nice crunch. Lightly salted roasted almonds are always one of my favorites on a smoothie bowl because of the toasty flavor in contrast to the juicy pop of wild blueberries. I enjoy the flavor of fresh basil so I love to include a few leaves along with a few bites of citrus.

Frozen Wild Blueberries are so fabulous because they are always in "season" in my freezer! I love that you can buy a big 3 pound bag for a reasonable price! It is so handy! Can you imagine picking all of those wild blueberries in the wild barrens of Maine. I think it would be a fabulous adventure that I take someday but until then my freezer is my iceberg barren.
"Wild Blueberries are naturally occurring lowbush blueberries. They have been growing in Maine, "Quebec and the Maritime Provinces for over 10,000 years. Unlike cultivated blueberries, the wild ones are not planted. They spread naturally and slowly, with careful management." Wild Blueberries website (check it out)
No matter what bowl you serve your Wild Smoothie Kefir Smoothie Bowl in it will be packed with nutrition and flavor. Studies show that antioxidant-rich Wild Blueberries and the bioactive phytonutrients that give them their deep-blue color give a various potential health benefits:

Another discovery I experienced on my Wild Blueberry Smoothie adventure is that kefir makes an exceptionally nice base! I love the tang of kefir with the sweetness of wild blueberries.
